FRENCH VICTORIAN AMETHYST GLASS INTAGLIO MOTTO SEAL- YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE

Newly list to Metal Corset II is this sweet Victorian intaglio motto seal.  It has a beautifully carved butterfly with the French phrase, "VOUS IL NE DIT JAMAIS ADIEU," which translates to, "You Never Said Goodbye."

The intaglio seal is purple glass to simulate amethyst and probably came from an French intaglio seal motto set which would've had several different seals in this style.

GEORGIAN MEMENTO MORI INTAGLIO SKULL WAX SEAL

This Georgian intaglio seal fob has a finely engraved carnelian base with the image of a skull beneath the motto, "Fear Wavering," and the letters "FW".

Many individuals in the Medieval through Victorian eras carried memento mori tokens with the skull or skeleton motif as a reminder of their own mortality or the inevitability of death, and with death, life has meaning and purpose.

Sometimes an hourglass or fugit tempus would accompany these skulls/skeleton symbolizing "time flees."

The second photo shows the seal impression.

Soon to be listed to Metal Corset II is this late 1700s early 1800s French memento mori armorial wax seal matrix depicting a skull and crossbones inside a shield topped with a winged helmet flanked by the initials H V G.

Most likely a 1700s early 1800s Freemason seal which gained its root from the traditions of the York Rite Chivalric Orders.

Here's an interesting link on the history of memento mori symbolism and Freemasonry:
